I am writing a story. What I need to know is in two parts.

First, is it (even theoretically) possible for there to be a place that is close to a bay (or anything else that leads into a sea/ocean), and also has several hills (maybe 300 to 500 feet high) as well as hundreds of tall trees that have plenty of leaves and branches, all through the year? There also need to be plenty of sources of fresh, flowing water — springs, rivers, streams, waterfalls, it doesn’t matter, but some kind of fresh, flowing water that is available all through the year for years and years.

There is a community of people living here (about five thousand people, give or take a few hundred in any given year). They have access to information (computers, satellites, etc). but they have no artificial stuff — no machines, such as power-tools, tractors, etc. They have electricity but it comes from windmills and from solar cells, not gas-powered or nuclear-powered machines. The forest in which they live is about five hundred square miles in size. But they occupy only ten square miles. half of that is for housing the people and farm animals (sheep and cows). The other half is agricultural land. They are a completely vegetarian society (except that they use milk and wool). Would five square miles of fertile land be enough to feed five thousand human beings and maybe twenty cows and twenty sheep, each year, for twenty or thirty years?

I would like to buy a lizard (small) that would like a small pond and artificial waterfall in its tank. The specifications of my vivarium: 13.5" (in) wide (all around, its square) and 2′ (ft) in height. I can get a bigger vivarium if necessary but if there’s a type of lizard that is small enough to fit in the size tank I have, that be great. Please note: the lizard doesn’t have to swim or anything, or even soak, just a lizard that would LIKE to have a water feature such as a waterfall and/or pond. THANKS! All info is welcome.

How is life like in the northern U.S. suburbs? Nature must be right outside your doorsteps… compared to down here… I live in Simi Valley, CA + Woodland Hills, CA and these places are just like living in a populated desert.

Up there it seems like there is much more to do outdoors. I have yet to see a real waterfall other than Niagara falls, I have yet to see real snow falling on the ground (not big bear w/ artificial snow), and so much more.

How do you guys find northern suburban life as such a pleasure? Is it ever a drag being far away from the city? Anything you guys hate about it? Tell me about it!

I am planning on having a bio-habitat. Kind of like a fish tank except on land and rainforesty. I already have a huge hexigon 40 gallon tank and i need to know What kind of soil and how i should plant all of the plants. I am going to put a fake rock waterfall in there for the frogs. I plan to use tree frogs and anoles. Now i have no idea if they should be together or not. If i cant put tree frogs and anoles together i was thinking about hermit crabs. Because ive seen in pet stores were they put lizards and Hermit Crabs together. But yeah i am new at this and am planning to take the time to learn. So i need to know what kind of soil to use what kind of plants to use also i need to know how to water the plants. I have an artificial light that should keep the plants alive. I need medium light plants by the way. But is there some type of terraruim mister i can buy for my tank or what. Well yea. hopfully i get a good awnser cuz if i see one i like i will pick them best awnser.

I recently purchased a new 40 Gallon tank and a C-360 Marineland Canister Filter for my 8 month Mississippi Map Turtle. At the beginning there was 0 algae (which is good and bad for the my tank because i have guppies which feed off that and my yo-yo loche botia- sucker fish), this only lasted about 3 weeks before lots of algae started to form (on rocks, fake plants, and the basking docks). Im extremely surprised with my filter. After all, its the best filtration, is meant for a 100 Gallon tank, and has been recommended to me by lots of aquarium owners. I use a multi-purpose cleaner to remove all the chemicals. Before i bought my new tank, i had two 20 Gallon waterfall filters which kept my water insanely clean in the old 20 Gallon Long tank.. I positioned the new tank in front of my window so he can bask in the non-artificial sun. I think this may be my problem, I may be wrong but maybe the sun helps speed up the production of algae. whats wrong.. help!

I’m 17 and i am always busy with school, sports and everything. i have 6 finches (3 society finches and the rest are zebra finches) and instead of having them in small cages like most people, i have a large cage and i always keep it open (the whole front of the cage is off) so they have a choice of whether or not to come out..and i have a waterfall on the far end of the room that my oldest finch loves to drink/bath from..my room is completely baby proof and i can always keep an eye on them..i also have a small artificial tree that is next to my bed that my society finches lay their eggs in all the time..With that being said..u can tell that my birds have free roam of the room..They are not tame but they don’t mind me being close to them and they are not afraid of me and will often fly right up to me when i have anything edible lol..i close the cage at night..but my door is always closed so they can’t fly out and they are potty trained they only poop in their cages (and i disinfect everything every two days just in case their are any accidents)..they all fly back to their cage if the door opens or anyone they dont know walks in…so i guess my question is, am i doing too much or too little for my birds? is their anything i need to change?

it’s like the 2 ideas i asked b4 but combined

a boy with fangs lives in our world and can enter another world where he really comes from by going under a waterfall and reciting a Japanese magic word and takes him to a parallel world and he ends up in a land just like Burma in Rambo 4, his main weapon (at the beginning at least) is a bow and arrow, he learns that he is a semi-successful artificial monster called Vandets (still working on a better name), it follows his journey to find an ancient scroll to create a whole demon army to counter the military.

For my fellow fish hobbyist out there, what is your dream aquarium and/or pond? Do you have pictures you can post and share? What size? How big? What type of tank (fresh vs. marine)? What type of fish would you keep. Live plants or artificial? Special decorations/lights?

For the pond, would you have a waterfall? A bridge?

Fess up and tell me your dream. Pretend money wasn’t an issue (no chuckling right there!).
